Figure Skating Summer Camp

Summer Camp 2020 is on!

We are implementing safety precautions to keep our campers, counselors + coaches as safe as we can while in our care. Parents will be sent a survey prior to the start of camp each week and the survey must be returned before camp begins. Parents will also need to sign an additional Covid waiver for their child to participate in our camps.  Only one parent or guardian is allowed to enter the building to drop their kids off and sign them in. The same for pick-up in the afternoon. IF kids can tie their own skates and they are old enough, we ask that you do not escort your children in to the building. Skaters MUST come dressed. Locker rooms will not be utilized. Upon arrival each day, campers + employees will have their temperature taken.  If a fever (100.4+) is shown on either campers or employees, they will not be able to stay at the rink and must immediately leave the building.  Extra hand sanitizers will be placed around the rink for campers + employees to use freely. Campers will be asked to wash their hands upon arrival at camp, before snack + lunch times and after getting off the ice. On the first day of camp each week, when we go over our regular safety measures, including fire drill + safety procedures, we will also go over hand washing safety + sanitation relating to Covid. We ask that you bring home their jackets/sweatshirts and gloves to wash each night. We will practice social distancing measures where we can. We cannot guarantee they will not be in contact with other kids; that is nearly impossible. We are limiting the number of kids in our Freestyle camp each week to 20 campers.  Once on the ice, they will be broken up into smaller groups. While other camps may be going on, they will be on the other rink surface for most of the day and our arrival + departure times are staggered. Freestyle camp starts before any of the other camps and ends later then the other camps. Ice Land is cleaned and sanitized every day by our janitor and we have implemented more frequent cleaning procedures especially of the bathrooms, lobby tables and handrails. Lunch tables will be wiped down each time the campers utilize them. Campers will be spread out for lunch times. If you want to pick up your camper for lunch time each day, please let us know. We are following and monitoring local government guidelines on mask wearing during camp.  Changes may need to be made to our original programming  to keep everyone safe, but campers will still have a great summer on the ice!  We are going to do what we can to keep everyone safe and we are so excited to be able to run our camps at the rink this year! Now go ahead and sign them up before we fill up!

Figure Skating Exercise Protocol/Regimen

Purpose: The use of resistance training, for example free weights, one’s own body weight, or resistance bands, will increase the overall performance of the athlete.

Performance factors consist of:

  • Increased flexibility for spins, spirals, artistic movements.
  • Increased strength for isolation holds, skating mechanics, take-off, rotations and landings.
  • Increased muscular endurance to resist fatigue.
  • Increased anaerobic power to create forceful jump take-offs, jump combinations and to better one’s stroking force and speed.
  • Increased physical preparation in order to create emotional benefits, for example positive self-esteem and mental focus, including nutrition.

Strength and Conditioning Goals: Total Body Strengthening, Increased Flexibility and Injury Prevention and Anaerobic Energy System Utilization (Low Volume, High Intensity, Multi-Joint Movements).

Our summer figure skating camp accommodates all levels of freestyle skaters* through advanced competitive levels. All on -ice classes will be taught by our professional certified staff and will be divided by skill level. Over 4 hours of ice time daily with 2 hours of professional instruction on-ice and 1 1/2 hours of off-ice instructed activities!

* Must be at least freestyle level 1 (LTS USA) or higher to participate in our freestyle camp, but we conveniently have our Learn-to-Skate camp the same week!

Important Information

Clothing, Equipment & Supplies
- ALL snacks and lunch must be brought daily and provided by each skater. No sharing of food allowed.
- Bring a towel/yoga mat and a jump rope.
- Wear sneakers.
- Vending machines are available if needed.

- Learn to Skate USA 
- US Figure Skating

Daily Schedule

8:00-8:15a – Drop off/Warm-up
8:15-8:30a – Skates on
8:30-9:00a – On-ice stroking/edges class
9:00-10:00a – Free practice time on the ice and/or private lesson time*
10:00-10:30a - On ice jumps/spin class.
11:15a-12:00p - Off ice class 
12:00-12:45p – Lunch, pick up/drop off for 1/2 day skaters**
12:30-12:45p – Skates on
12:45-1:15p – On-ice jumps/spin class
1:15-3:00p – Free practice time on the ice and/or private lesson time
3:00-3:15 - Skates off
3:15-4:00p – Off-ice class with DeMarco Training
4:00p – Pick up

* Private lesson fees are NOT included in the camp fees. Private lessons are to be arranged with your child's coach. If you are not currently working with a coach, and would like to, please contact our skating director for more information and to arrange lesson's during camp.
** Half day camp times are from 8:00a-12:00p or 12:00-4:00p.

Off Ice Training

Morning off ice training will consist of a combination of Pilates, Barre, yoga, ballet, stretching, off ice jumps and fitness. 3 of the 5 morning sessions will be with an AFAA Certified group fitness instructor and the other 2 sessions will be off ice jumps with a figure skating coach.

Afternoon off ice training will be with Joe DeMarco of DeMarco training. Joe and his staff will work with the figure skaters every afternoon increasing flexibility, strength, muscular endurance, anaerobic power and psychical preparation. Joe will also go over appropriate nutrition and food to fuel their bodies.
