Ice Land's Advanced Freestyle Class
Welcome to our Advanced Freestyle page. Because it is structured differently than any other class offered in our Learn to Skate Program, we would like to take this opportunity to give you a brief overview of what Advanced Freestyle entails. This will include a breakdown of the class format, skills your skater will be learning and practicing and reasons why it is so important for skaters at every level to experience these aspects of the sport.
In conclusion,, we want our skaters to enjoy their moments on the ice while gaining a basic knowledge of every facet of the sport. Whether our students become competitive figure skaters, or just like to skate for fun, this Advanced Freestyle Class will foster their talents and instill in them an appreciation for the sport of figure skating.
The Class will consist of three parts:

1.    9:00-9:20am    Technical Skating Skills

This includes basic stroking patterns, crossovers, edges, three-turns and spirals.

Reason: These skills are the fundamentals of the sport of figure skating and are
an absolute necessity to practice if a skater wishes to progress. They reinforce
proper skating technique, balance and overall control.

2.     9:20-9:30am    Choreography/Artistic Interpretation

This includes a focus on posture, carriage and flow over the ice, basic
arm positions and an introduction to interpretive skating.

Reason: Presentation is a major aspect of figure skating, and this portion of the
class gives the students a fun opportunity to skate to music while i
                                    incorporating basic choreography and expression.

3.    9:30-10:00am    Freestyle Class

At this time students will separate into class levels from Basic 7 to
Freestyle 6. They will learn new skills, including jumps and spins,
as well as refine techniques of maneuvers from previous levels.

Reason: Elements in skating build upon each other, and it is extremely important
for a skater to practice jumping technique and spin positions for all elements
in their repertoire, not just skills specific to a certain level.
