Ice Land 2012 Summer Hockey Camp (July 23 - 27 & August 6 - 10)

Program Description

ICE LAND is proud to announce our 19th annual Summer Hockey Camp. Each year we bring together the best coaching talent to provide a camp that always provides quality instruction in a fun and exciting setting. We offer the most innovative instruction, designed to meet the needs of today’s player. Our full day Camp is open to players ages 6 - 14 at all skill levels. Our program emphasizes skill development and isolates individual weaknesses for improvement.

We use a low student to instructor ratio ensuring the best instruction possible. We continually analyze a student’s strengths and weaknesses, including all aspects from stick handling and shooting skills to strength and conditioning. Each day the students improve existing skills, learn new skills and enjoy the game of hockey.

OBJECTIVE:

To improve a player’s overall ability by concentrating on the fundamentals of skating, shooting, passing and stick handling.

PHILOSOPHY:

In order to improve and excel at hockey, there are many key factors for achieving success. We believe one of them is positive reinforcement, the best teaching approach for children. By using this method we create an environment to test established boundaries and to free them up to risk failure without the downside. By assisting a student to move out of their comfort zone, the program helps them improve their skills and raise their confidence. Technique must be correct and repeated so a player not only will improve at hockey school, but can continue their progress throughout the year. Each skill will be broken down so proper technique can be achieved.

HEAD INSTRUCTOR: CHRIS BARCLESS

A coach, instructor and hockey mentor at Ice Land for 15 years. Coach of 4 straight Championship teams for the Mercer Chiefs, Bantam/Pee Wee levels. Chris was Head Coach with 9 seasons at PDS and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the students. Voted coach of the decade by the area newspapers and voted 12 seasons as “Coach of the Year” for High School Ice Hockey. Chris assists with the USA Hockey Festival team camps.

What a day consists of:

Conditioning Session: Power drills, Plyometrics, one on one competition, Player vs. Player, and tug of war between teams.

Powerskating: Teaches proper techniques to achieve a much faster, efficient skater. Balance, speed, and agility will be the main focus for our daily sessions. The more control you have on your edges, the better skater you will be. It is very important to be able to control your body and edges while trying to achieve maximum speed. We will teach you how it is done.

Drills and Skills: Time dedicated to stick/shoot/pass skills. To enhance your development as a player, we have numerous devices to help. Bungee cords for skating resistance, pull belts for stride and power, weighted pucks for stick handling and shooting, target nets for accuracy shooting, and radar gun for testing shooting speed.

Station Training: Everyday a series of different skills will be taught and utilized in separate groups called station training. In those stations we will focus and concentrate on the proper techniques of each skill so a player can utilize them in game situations.

Scrimmage: Game situations to understand and learn the knowledge of the game. (Positional play)
